Okay, y’all, this one’s easy, vegan, and addictive! If you’re a mustard lover like me, and you enjoy some juicy, crispy, fried tofu, go ahead and give it a try. Even if you’re an omnivore! I promise you won’t be sorry.
For the sauce
1/2 cup flour
1 cup rice milk
3 Tbsp mustard (I used regular French’s)
2 Tbsp Sour Supreme
1. Put all the sauce ingredients in a small to medium sized saucepan, stir thoroughly, and turn heat to medium-high.
2. Continue to stir as sauce heats up and thickens; reduce heat to simmer.
3. Leave aside, warm, until ready to serve; stir again to even consistency before serving.
For the tofu
1 block extra firm tofu (pressed)
1 cup rice milk
1/2 cup flour
1 Tbsp paprika
1 Tbsp garlic powder
freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 Tbsp liquid smoke
2 Tbsp canola oil
1. Pour rice milk into dish for dipping; whisk flour, paprika, garlic powder, and pepper in a separate bowl.
2. Pour canola oil and liquid smoke in skillet on medium high heat.
3. Cut tofu into desired shapes. Take one piece, dip in milk, then roll in flour mixture until covered; place in skillet. Repeat for each piece of tofu.
4. Fry tofu until brown, turning over for even cooking.
5. Serve straight out of skillet, drizzled with warm mustard sauce.
